A pair of intriguing matchups will lead off this year’s tournament for the Lombardi Trophy, as the Seahawks travel to California to take on the 49ers, while two of the AFC’s young gunslingers face off to cap off the doubleheader.

The Seahawks got some help from Detroit in Week 18, with the Lions sending Seattle a late Christmas gift by knocking off the Packers. Now, Geno Smith gets a playoff start for the first time in his winding career, and it’s against a familiar 49ers foe.

On the AFC side of things, it’s a showdown between Justin Herbert and Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars stole the AFC South from the Titans in the last game of the regular season, knocking Mike Vrabel and Co. from their division pedestal.

  • Date: Saturday, Jan. 14
  • Location: Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, Calif.

Talk about a matchup of quarterbacks with unexpected seasons. Geno Smith and the Seahawks keep their run rolling against NFC West rival 49ers, led by Brock Purdy, in the first matchup of the 2023 NFL playoffs.

Smith outperformed every expectation en route to one of the best seasons from a Seahawks passer in franchise history, surely setting himself up for a big payday this offseason. For San Francisco, Brock Purdy has helped mitigate the loss of Jimmy Garoppolo (and Trey Lance), with the 49ers not missing a beat en route to a 13-4 record.

Jacksonville Jaguars (4) vs. Los Angeles Chargers (5)

  • Date: Saturday, Jan. 14
