It was a historic night in Iowa’s 106-89 win over Michigan. The hometown hero scored a career-high and program-best 49 points to break Kelsey Plum’s points record. Clark is now the league leader with 3,569 career points and counting.
It came just 2 minutes and 12 seconds into the game when she scored her and Iowa’s eight point of the night. The near-logo three-pointer was the signature Clark shot, and it’s hard to imagine a more perfect way to make history.
By the end of the first quarter, Clark had 23 points, more than Michigan’s entire team, and assisted on every point she didn’t personally make. Unmatched, as Iowa’s celebratory newspapers said. The Hawkeye added 13 assists on the night for a double-double.
She’s not done yet. Clark has four more regular season games as well as the postseason to further cement her legacy. She’s 98 points to breaking Pete Maravich’s record and becoming the NCAA basketball, men or women, all-time leading scorer. For now, the Hawkeyes have unfinished business.
