Timberwolves vs. Nuggets live score: Updated Game 7 results, highlights from 2024 NBA Playoffs

A hard-fought Western Conference Semifinals series comes down to Game 7 between the Timberwolves and Nuggets.

With its back against the wall in Game 6, Minnesota answered the call with a historic 45-point victory. After trading blows throughout the series, these Western Conference heavyweights will meet one final time. The winner advances to face the Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals.

In Game 7, stars are looked upon to rise to the occasion. While Denver’s duo of Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray have each played in four Game 7s and Rudy Gobert has played in two, this is the first-ever Game 7 for Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns.

Sunday marks the second Game 7 in Minnesota’s 35-year franchise history. The first came 20 years ago to the date of this year’s Game 7 and resulted in the Wolves’ only trip to the Western Conference Finals. Will Minnesota see history repeat itself in 2024? Or will Denver’s title defense continue?

The Sporting News is tracking live updates from Game 7 between The Timberwolves and Nuggets. The latest NBA odds for Timberwolves-Nuggets Game 7 have Denver favored by 4.5 points.

(All times Eastern.)

Fourth quarter

10:11 p.m.: Just over five minutes remain in regulation and the Timberwolves lead by five points.

This one looks like it will come down to the wire. Something to monitor is the foul situation of Minnesota’s front court. Karl Anthony-Towns has five fouls and Rudy Gobert has four.

Timberwolves 85, Nuggets 80.

10:01 p.m.: Now things are going back and forth in the Mile High City.

After two free throws from Rudy Gobert gave Minnesota a five-point advantage, Nikola Jokic hit a huge 3 to cut the deficit back to two.

The Wolves lead by two points with under eight minutes to go.

Timberwolves 77, Nuggets 75

9:55 p.m.: 12 seconds into the fourth frame, Rudy Gobert gives Minnesota the lead with a finish through contact but he can’t get the free throw to go.

Timberwolves 68, Nuggets 67

End of third quarter: Nuggets 67, Timberwolves 66

9:51 p.m.: The Timberwolves close the third quarter on a 28-9 run to cut the deficit to one ahead of the fourth quarter.

We’ve got a good one on our hands, folks.

Anthony Edwards may have found his groove as he drained a triple in the final seconds of the third quarter. Edwards has 13 points on 5-of-16 shooting but that goes out the window as he has one quarter to add to the legend he’s already built during these playoffs.

Denver’s offense stagnated in the third quarter as it scored just 14 points. Nikola Jokic is up to 20 points, 17 rebounds and five assists while Jamal Murray’s got 29 points, three assists and a rebound. No other Nuggets player has more than five points.

12 minutes could decide who advances to the Western Conference Finals, though this game could go even further.

9:44 p.m.: Minnesota is chipping away.

Despite trailing by as many as 20 points, the Timberwolves are now within four points after a Nikola Jokic turnover led to a breakaway dunk for the struggling Anthony Edwards.

Edwards has eight points on 3-of-13 shooting while Denver has missed 10 of its last 11 shots.

Timeout on the floor with just over three minutes left in the quarter.

Nuggets 61, Timberwolves 57

9:34 p.m.: The Nuggets are keeping some distance from the Timberwolves but Minnesota is trying to claw its way back into the game.

In what should be a welcomed sight for Wolves fans, Anthony Edwards gets a field goal to go to cut the deficit to 12. Edwards has been thrown off of his rhythm in this one and has just six points on 2-of-10 shooting.

For Denver, Jamal Murray is up to 29 points on 50.0 percent shooting in 26 minutes of action. Timeout with 7:24 remaining in the third.

Nuggets 59, Timberwolves 47

Halftime: Nuggets 53, Timberwolves 38

9:06 p.m.: Denver used a crucial swing at the end of the half to take a 15-point lead into the locker room.

The Nuggets’ first-half efforts have been fueled by Jamal Murray, who’s got 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting and Nikola Jokic, who has 13 points, 15 rebounds and five assists.

Denver’s stars are showing up in a major way and its defense has stifled Minnesota.

Anthony Edwards has four points on 1-of-7 shooting and as a team, the Timberwolves are shooting 12 of 38 (31.6 percent) from the field. Karl-Anthony Towns has been the offense’s brightest spot with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting.

No team has come back from a halftime deficit of 15-plus points in Game 7. Minnesota will be going against history and Denver in the second half.

8:59 p.m.: The Timberwolves are trying to hang around before the game reaches halftime.

Karl-Anthony Towns scores five straight points to cut the deficit to 10 points with just over two minutes left in the half. Towns has a team-high 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting.

Minnesota will need much more from its prolific big man to get back into the game.

Nuggets 48, Timberwolves 38

8:50 p.m.: Denver has an answer for every Minnesota response.

After the Timberwolves cut the deficit to five points, the Nuggets scored six straight to get their lead back to double-digits. An and-one jumper from Jamal Murray puts Denver up by 11 and the free throw gives him a game-high 22 points in the first half,

Nuggets 41, Timberwolves 29

8:36 p.m.: The Nuggets have picked up right where they left off to open the second frame.

Denver’s lead is up to double digits after a quick 6-0 run through the first 2:10 of the quarter. The Wolves now face an 11-point deficit and call for a timeout before this game gets away from them.

Nuggets 30, Timberwolves 19

End of first quarter: Nuggets 24, Timberwolves 19

8:29 p.m.: Jamal Murray has come alive.

Murray’s up to a game-high 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field including 3-of-5 shooting from 3-point range. No other player in the game has more than six points.

Nikola Jokic is on early triple-double watch with six points, five rebounds and four assists after one. Anthony Edwards is 1 of 5 from the field and scored just two points in the first.

With Murray getting hot to close the quarter, Denver closed the quarter on a 19-7 run to take a five-point into the second frame. This game already feels like the heavyweight battle it was projected to be.

How will the Wolves respond?

8:23 p.m.: The defensive battle continues but Denver has responded to Minnesota’s first blow.

A turnaround jumper from Jamal Murray gives him seven early points and cuts the Nuggets deficit to one point. Murray and Jokic (six points) have all but three of Denver’s points.

Jaden McDaniels leads the way for the Wolves with five points early on. Anthony Edwards has just two points but is already up to three assists.

Each team is now shooting 7 of 19 (36.8 percent) from the field.

Timberwolves 17, Nuggets 16

8:14 I.m.: The Timberwolves are out to a solid start here in Game 7.

After a Jaden McDaniels and-one finish, Minnesota leads by four points as the first quarter approaches its midway point. McDaniels can extend the lead with a free throw after a timeout.

This one has been all about defenses so far. The Timberwolves and Nuggets are shooting a combined 4 of 24 (16.7 percent) from the field and scoring has been at a premium.

Timberwolves 9, Nuggets 5

Pregame

7:40 p.m.: The starters are in for Minnesota: Mike Conley, Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert.

The Wolves go with the same five for Game 7. This doubles as confirmation that Conley is good to go.

7:20 p.m.: No surprises here. Nuggets guard Jamal Murray has officially been ruled active for Game 7.

6:45 p.m.: The MVP has arrived to his office and looks ready to work.

6:30 p.m.: Tonight’s injury report isn’t clear but all signs indicate that every impactful player will suit up.

Mike Conley (right calf) and Jamal Murray (left calf) are listed as questionable but both are expected to give it a go in this decisive Game 7.
